What should you expect from your first appointment?
Your chiropractic appointment actually starts before the appointment. To book an appointment as a new patient you need to call the clinic. One of our staff members will be happy to assist you in setting up your appointment. Before you call, be prepared. We will ask you for;
- The patient’s full name
- The patient’s date of birth
- A brief description of symptoms
- The best contact number for the appointment
- The name of your insurance company (if using insurance)
Once your appointment is booked, you can relax. We recommend arriving 15-20 minutes early the day of your appointment, more if you feel you’ll need to provide more intensive descriptions of symptoms. Once you arrive, one of our Patient Care Coordinators will assist in the next steps of your appointment. We will provide you with all necessary paperwork and ask for an identification and insurance card. If you are not using insurance we will provide options for out-of-pocket payment options. For motor vehicle accidents, worker’s comp., physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, or DOT exams, we have different intake procedures. We recommend calling the clinic or visiting related articles within our webpage for more information.
Once the paperwork portion of your visit is complete, we will guide you on a tour of our facilities, and outline the specific care options we provide. If you have questions feel free to ask one of our staff members, we are happy to answer them! Once your tour has been completed we will guide you to a private exam room. These rooms will be utilized for your first two exams to ensure that we can provide private, one-on-one care.
Your provider will soon arrive, and will begin the health analysis portion of your visit. This is where you will discuss things like goals for your care, symptoms, previous care, and much more. This conversation is a crucial part of your care, and helps your doctor to understand the scope and needs of your care. Through this information gathering process, doctors begin to construct a personalized care plan suited to fit you and your needs.
When you and your doctor complete the verbal portion of your visit, your doctor will proceed with the adjustment and physical examination. This is the time in your visit where we are checking for things like misalignments in the body. Our highly communicative doctors will guide you through the movements and adjustments, and will give you insights into the care they’re providing along the way. If you would like to know more about the care you received, let your doctor know during or after the appointment and they are happy to forward information to you.
Once you’re completed with the adjustment and exam, the doctor may recommend one of our therapies. After this you can stop by the desk to schedule your next appointment. Our doctors give care frequency recommendations for you that take the guess work out of scheduling. Our desk staff are happy to help with any scheduling questions or needs you may have.
Then, you’ve done it! We recommend keeping physical activity the day of your adjustment minimal where possible. We also highly recommend increasing your water intake for 24 hours following the adjustment. This will help to alleviate some common soreness and stiffness patients can experience after their adjustment. If your soreness lasts more than 48 hours after your appointment, reach out and we will get you scheduled to come back sooner than your next appointment to get re-adjusted. These side effects are more common for those who receive intensive treatment or who have rarely or infrequently received care.
