How do I know what service I need?

At KHG, we recommend starting with chiropractic care if you are unsure of your needs. It is easier to get in for then physical therapy, and our chiropractors have lots of experience referring their patients to their next steps, whether that be massage, acupuncture or physical therapy. If you don't choose to continue chiropractic after your first exam and you move on to something else, that is not a problem! Your health is our priority, and we are happy to pass your care along to one of our other experienced staff members.

Why do my joints “crack” or “pop” during an adjustment?

The characteristic “crack” or “pop” that many people associate with a chiropractic adjustment is simply an indicator of bubbles between your joints popping. Also called crepitus, it occurs when your joints move. Nitrogen gas bubbles are formed in the synovial fluid (the lubrication for your joints), and when your joints are moved, these bubbles are squished and popped. There are many things that can cause these crunchy sounds; Arthritis can degenerate the joint and cartilage and cause inflammation. This increases the amount of gas bubbles between your joints, thus, increasing the occurrence of these sounds. Ligament Stretch occurs when ligaments move over areas of bone and make a “popping” sound. This is a more common occurrence during or after activities that increase stress on your joints. Dehydration is a common culprit for the sudden increase of crepitus. By dehydrating your body you decrease the amount of synovial fluid between your joints. This decrease can cause joint stiffness, soreness, and increased cracks and pops. If you suddenly notice an increase of these symptoms without reason, start with a glass of water. Age is an inevitable culprit for many aches, pains, creaks, pops, well…you get the point. If you’re starting to feel like a not-so-well lubricated machine, you’re not alone. As we age, we naturally cause wear and tear on our joints. In addition, our joints naturally become less lubricated as we age. Combine all this together with the common occurrence of bone, muscle, or joint damage or injury throughout many people’s lives, and suddenly that creaky knee makes a lot more sense.

What kind of symptoms warrant a trip to Knewtson Health Group?

Because of the nature of our clinic and care, we are able to help almost any symptom! This is because of our body’s anatomy. If your spine and joints become misaligned, you may not notice them become sore right away. You may notice your frequent headaches, the nausea associated with your vertigo, the increased stress, but these symptoms can often overshadow or even eclipse the root of your problem. When you’re misaligned on a musculoskeletal level, you’re also misaligned in every other part of your body. Inflammation, soreness, stiffness, and pain are only some of many symptoms that come from a misalignment within your body. Concerned we might not be able to help? Give us a call and we’d be happy to discuss treatment options and availability within our clinic, and our doctors are able to recommend care, even if it’s not with our clinic.

Does chiropractic care cause or worsen arthritis?

While there is a common misconception that chiropractic care causes or exacerbates arthritis or its symptoms, this is simply an old wives tale. There is no scientific evidence to support claims of an increased risk of arthritis as a result of chiropractic care, or even cracking your knuckles! The experienced team at Knewtson Health Group is multifaceted and highly qualified, with decades of experience treating patients between our five chiropractors alone! Our longer initial appointment time is specifically tailored to provide enough time for our doctors to have an in-depth discussion, and health analysis, prior to receiving your care. If you have a health concern or need that you would like your doctor to know about prior to your first appointment, let us know when you’re scheduling and we will make sure the doctor is prepared to help!
